Courts Asia: Announced that its first ‘Big-Box’ Megastore in Malaysia has soft opened today, ahead of the original schedule of Aug13. The 108,000 sf. Megastore will be the Group’s largest store in Malaysia, and will offer the largest range of electrical, IT and furniture products in Malaysia and a host of hi-tech and innovative retail concepts, many of which are brand new to Malaysia and exclusive to Courts. Recall in a recent interview with The Edge magazine over the weekend, Courts gave guidance that the group will increase its retailing area in Malaysia at a rate of 120,000 sf per annum over the next three years, and will attempt to open a new store in Singapore every year. Despite having brand rights for 14 countries in Asia, the group’s near-term focus remains on the trio of Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia markets. Following the latest opening of its megastore, investor’s attention will likely now be focused on the group’s entry into Indonesia, where Courts will open a 140,000 sf retail centre in Jakarta next year, which would enable the group to leverage on the growing domestic consumption story of Asean’s largest economy.
