Stats Chippac

Stats Chippac: Computer chip prices are expected to weaken on slower demand though experts expect technology and innovation to keep the semiconductor industry afloat despite recent setbacks. Sg’s semiconductor industry remains steady with 11% of wafer output produced here. Based on IHS iSuppli Research report, global semicon revenues would likely reach US$323.2b this yr, up from 3.3% last yr. However, growth is expected at 6.6-7.9% if the US economy and the rest of the world recovers.

In Japan, Elpida Memory filed for bankruptcy after failing to refinance debts of US$5.5b. Industry leaders still expect local computer chip makers to weather the storm despite the fall of Elpida.

Stats Chippac suffered a full yr loss as of last reported results partly due to the Thai floods.
