SIA: "Cracks were found on a small number of wing rib feet on an Airbus A380 during inspections in the second half of last year. These pose no safety issue and repairs were carried out on the aircraft. Repairs were subsequently carried out on a second aircraft," SIA’s spokesman, said in an emailed reply to queries from DJ Newswires.
SIA, which operates 14 Airbus A380s and has five more on order, has kept regulatory authorities fully informed and is inspecting other A380s on its fleet, he said.
Airbus confirmed Thursday that it has informed airlines operating its A380 superjumbos to check for small cracks in wing rib-skin attachments, but said the "minor" cracks are "non-critical" and don't constitute a safety issue.
