M’sia Healthcare/Education

M’sia Healthcare/Education: According to a Bernama report, Malaysia will remove foreign ownership restrictions on the healthcare, education & biz svcs sectors by removing foreign ownership restrictions. The liberalisation will be implemented in phases. For healthcare, the govt will lift restrictions to foreign equity participation in the setting up of specialised private hospitals with a minimum number of beds & relax entry restrictions for foreign specialists such as doctors & dentists.

In education, there will be a gradual relaxation of foreign equity restrictions in int’l schools & extending teaching permits validity up to 5 yrs. Potential beneficiaries would include Raffles Edu, which is setting up a 65-acre uni campus in Iskandar (expected to be ready by 2013) as well as medical grps, Raffles Medical (no exposure), Healthway (recently acquired land near KLCC) & Q&M (currently 2 dental outlets in M’sia).
