Australia carbon tax

Australia carbon tax: the developed world’s biggest per capita polluter will raise A$27.8b in 3 yrs by making companies pay for carbon emissions, and offer A$47b to assist industry and households and spur renewable energy invmt through 2020.
PM Gillard wants to cut emissions to at least 5% below 2000 levels by 2020...

The tax on companies will charge an initial A$23/ton of carbon dioxide; it wil also cut the diesel fuel rebate for mining companies and raise the excise on aviation kerosene to 10.16cts/l in 2014-15 from 3.556cts now.
The emission tax will switch to a cap-and-trade system in 2015...

Despite coal mining cos getting A$1.3b over 6yrs, the likes of Anglo American say it is not enough. Separately, Qantas says it can’t absorb the cost of tax, budget carrier Virgin Blue noted higher fares in Australia are inevitable.
Spore listed counters with coal and aviation exposure in Australia include Noble (via 66% interest in Gloucester Coal and stakes in Middlemount, Donaldson and Monto Coal), Tiger Air (45% of revenue from Australia) and SIA.
