SGX

SGX: Singapore the loser in HKEx/ LME? SGX has its own clearing house, AsiaClear. It was set up a few years ago with the help of the government. But AsiaClear is still pretty small. It also has neither the scale nor necessarily the right governance – it is part of a vertical silo – to truly be attractive and useful as a way of building up Singapore’s position in the region as a commodities hub. Singapore is focused on oil, coal, iron ore and agricultural and soft commodities, not metals. Yet it does underline the need for Singapore to build a proper market infrastructure to encourage widest possible market use. http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/c6f3e8f0-b85c-11e1-82c8-00144feabdc0.html#axzz1y7fhkvYU
